Summit - Orbit Lounge Bar

Level 47 Australia Square
264 George Street, Sydney

As the name suggests… … Orbit Bar does orbit or more accurately, rotate giving you a 360 view of Sydney’s spectacular city skyline. The view highlights everything that makes this city an international must see destination. The décor does have a slight spaceship feel. Not spaceship like Will Robinson or space suits… More like dimly lit oval stacked lights and white coloured seating. Red carpet which sounds loud however it works well and adds a nice warmth.

We were blown away by the view. At sunset the view is stunning. Especially if you get a window seat. The colours of the sunset and view of the harbour is mesmerising. We see city lights, ferries lights, the Harbour Bridge, Opera House and car lights as they cross the bridge. This all merges into a wonderful kaleidoscope of colour. It’s an incredible view and we are reminded of our lucky we are to be living in this country and city.

The music is well picked and suites the stylish and sophisticated surrounds. The music is perhaps a little on the soft side. You don’t seem to miss it so much due to the captivating view. The bar is not about the music.

Service… Fantastic! On the 4 occasions we’ve been there we have never had to wait to be seated or served. Once seated you are looked after by a waitress. The girls are switched on, friendly and attentive and they wear these cute LBD numbers and look great. Wait time for a drink, minimal to none. We were asked each time just before we had finished our drink. As one drink is finished, like magic the other appears. Perfect! It’s rare to have that happen in a bar.

Disappointing to look at and a little undersized is what we initially thought when we got our cocktails. However after the first sip we got over that. Ladies, in this instance, size doesn’t seem to matter. The barmen certainly knew what they were doing, which makes the world of difference, if you know what we mean…

Back to the cocktails…they packed a lovely punch. Two of these babies are definitely enough to send you into a lovely warm haze. Try the Golden Dream and Bikini, we loved them and are told they are a favourite with the women who come here.

Men factor: well we have to say they’re not hot sizzling, ouch kinda hot. More like, could be hot, could grow on you hot, could get hot, nudge nudge wink wink. Everyone is seated so it changes the dynamics a little. There’s no real opportunity to brush up against anyone or do flirty strutty laps (that’s strutty not slutty) without the whole bar knowing what your doing. The men are well dressed which is very much the style and vibe of the clientele. Ladies make sure you dress up to come here. It’s mature, not as in old, just classy and sophisticated. We tend to get pre occupied with the view and the men get a distant second… Hard to believe we know. The view really is that spectacular.

Loos. We were a bit disappointed. It’s average when you compare them to rest of the bar. Spacious and clean enough. Plenty of mirror and standing room which is always great for us. Just nothing flash. We’ve had a couple of laughs on trying to find the bathroom. When your orbiting it can get a little tricky. Nothing to do with the how many cocktails we’ve had of course…

In summary:
This bar is stylish, sophisticated and relaxed. Not casual in dress or attitude by any means. Definitely after 5 wear or smart business wear. A perfect place to bring your boss or important work colleagues be they international, interstate or locals who haven’t seen the spectacular sites of Sydney from this perspective. They’ll be impressed by your choice of bar. From our experience the service will match and you and who ever you bring here will have great bar experience on all counts.
Bring your favourite girlfriends here for after work drinks or cocktails. You’ll love it and feel great sipping cocktails while basking in the view. Spectacular views, great service and cocktails to die for.

Ps: If you do want to do cocktails at sunset and manage to get a window seat, make sure you bring your sunnies! With the floor to ceiling windows and the orbit (rotation) you are bound to get a splash of bright sunlight in your eyes and it can be intense. Squinting isn’t a particularly sexy look. Seriously it’s bright up there. In summer bring the SPF30+ you’ll need it!
